Chicago Mayoral Race

Well, Rahm Emanuel has cleared hurdle one. There's not a doubt in my mind that he will be able to run. Black candidates have come together to support Carol Moseley Braun. Is a Republican even going to pretend to run? Could anyone ever win against the Chicago machine?

Chicago's Race for Mayor

As the end of the Daley era nears, it is very interesting to see who all will be running for mayor of Chicago. Will Rahm Emmanuel be able to run? Has he legally been a Chicago resident for the past year? We know the answer is "no," but it will be quite a show to see the spin around this, and how he will finagle his way to mayor.

What about the Republicans? Will they even give it the old college try?

Don't Forget to Vote on Nov. 2nd

It is your right to vote. Please take the opportunity to do so. Illinois needs new leadership. Look beyond party loyalties and do what is right for the state of Illinois. When I sold municipal bonds back in the 70's, the State of Illinois General Obligation bonds had a Moody's rating of Aaa. Now it's A1, having been cut in June from Aa3. Our debt is in the $25 billion range! Doesn't that sound more like a country's debt?

Remember that famous guy from Illinois, Abe Lincoln, said in the Gettysburg Address, " that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth." It seems as though it has perished from Illinois.

Anita Hill and Clarence & Ginny Thomas

I just can't believe that after all this time Clarence and Anita are back in the news. What is Ginny thinking? Anita apologize? Clarence should be doing the apologizing, especially since he has a cushy life-time job that is not in jeopardy. I'm just as convinced as I ever was that he is guilty of  indiscretions with Anita. It was a different working environment back then, and not many men were "politically correct" in their office behavior. I, too, saw that first-hand. That Anita had the guts to tell it like it was, made her a target of the "good-old-boy" boorish water-cooler behavior. Anita, stand your ground and don't give in to any public pressure. I'm glad you called the FBI.

Blogging

Well, it was certainly an adventure setting up this blog. It was supposed to take 3 minutes, but it took 30 minutes to find an available URL. As you would expect, all my good ideas were taken. Even some of the not-so-good ones were, too. Not sure how I feel about this one yet, but I wanted to get started. Not that I have anything really awe-inspiring to share.

Can't dally too long. I have to get ready to go to my "volunteer intern" job today. I'm learning about SEO, SEM and web strategies. Which is great as I am back in school learning about integrated marketing communications. When I tell people that they just stare at me. It is quite a mouthful. Or maybe it's because I don't look like a typical student or intern as I am closer to retirement age than to any other age group. Well, I don't care.

Off for now.
